Behind every result is an archetype — a recognisable way of playing the game. Here are the main ones you can land on, and what separates them.
High Technique, high Tactics, lower Defending. The playmaker sees the pass before anyone else and has the touch to play it. These are the players a team is built around — the ones who get on the ball in tight spaces and make the whole side tick. Zidane, Cruyff and Roberto Baggio are the templates. They rarely do the dirty work, because their job is to decide the game, not to break it up.
High Attacking and Pace, modest Defending. This is the number nine who lives on the shoulder of the last defender and needs only one chance. Everything is geared toward the moment the ball arrives in the box. Ronaldo (R9) and Pelé define the type: devastating in front of goal, happy to let others build the move.
Strong almost everywhere. Technique to beat a man, Pace to run in behind, Physical to hold the ball up, and the Attacking instinct to finish. Rare and valuable — but in our matching, being complete is not a shortcut to a high score. Your two standout traits still decide who you resemble, so a complete profile has to genuinely excel, not just be tidy across the board.
High Defending, high Physical and Tactics, lower Attacking. The organiser at the back who marshals the line, wins his duels and reads danger early. Paolo Maldini and Franz Beckenbauer show the two flavours: the perfect defender and the defender who also builds play from deep.
Balanced, with Physical and Tactics to the fore. The midfielder who covers every blade of grass, links defence to attack and never stops. Balanced profiles are common in real football — which is exactly why we tuned the quiz so that being balanced does not match you with everyone. Your profile has to lean somewhere to find its player.
On top of the six axes, the quiz reads how you lead. Four short questions place you on two scales: whether you put the team or yourself first, and whether you lead loudly or quietly. That gives four captain types:
| Archetype | Who they are |
|---|---|
| The Captain | Drags everyone with them and always puts the team first — a born dressing-room leader. |
| The Talisman | Leads by demanding the ball and carrying the side. Big personality, big moments. |
| The Silent General | Leads by example, never loud, always for the collective. Team-mates follow what they do. |
| The Maverick | Lets the boots do the talking and does things their own way. A free spirit up top. |
Which one are you? There's only one way to find out.
